This case study demonstrates how TrialView, a leading litigation software, facilitated the management of a highly complex and high-stakes linked aviation litigation case with a claim for in excess of €5 billion. This significant legal undertaking involved over 500 lawyers from 14 leading law firms representing numerous parties across multiple, interconnected proceedings and thousands of documents, which were all managed within TrialView's platform.

The Challenge

The law firms faced a challenge in this case as they had no way of efficiently managing all of the relevant documents (especially as many of them came from different sources) or provide a single view for all parties while still maintaining segregated document sets for individual proceedings.

Additionally, they needed to provide a cohesive and straightforward hearing process involving a mixture of in-person and remote participants, with secure and reliable evidence presentation capabilities and real-time transcriptions.

The Solution

TrialView was selected as the litigation platform that the teams would be using in this case, particularly because we offer a suite of features tailored for complex, multi-party litigation. Throughout the litigation process, TrialView provided comprehensive support, ensuring that all parties could access and use the platform with confidence, contributing to the smooth and efficient conduct of the hearings. However, there were three top features which solved many of the problems that the law firms had previously faced...

Firstly, our software provided a centralised, secure online repository that was capable of handling the vast volume of documents in this case, despite the range of sources that they came from. It streamlined the process of document sharing and review, eliminating the inefficiencies associated with managing multiple systems and sources. Plus, the granular permission settings for this repository allowed document sets to be created that were only accessible to relevant parties or segmented to individual linked proceedings. With this, TrialView helped to create an environment of seamless collaboration between the 14 law firms and hundreds of lawyers involved in this aviation claim.

Next, the platform's built-in video conferencing and evidence presentation tool was crucial for the law firms involved as it allowed stakeholders in the case to join remotely, eliminating geographical barriers and reducing many logistical issues. TrialView's evidence presentation capabilities were particularly useful as our features allowed the legal teams to efficiently organise, present, and annotate evidence in a clear and compelling way, ensuring everyone could follow the proceedings but also providing a competitive edge over the other party.

Finally, TrialView's integration for real-time transcription (which can be added as part of a TrialView package with no need for two subscriptions) provided an immediate and accurate record of the hearing proceedings.

Conclusion

TrialView proved to be an indispensable tool in managing this complex, multi-party aviation litigation. Its robust document management capabilities (including segmentation and permissions) and advanced evidence presentation and video conferencing features directly addressed the key pain points identified by the legal teams. Additionally, TrialView was shown to have led to significant cost and time savings for the law firms involved, giving them a chance to focus on other areas of this case.

By providing a collaborative and secure platform, TrialView helped these 14 law firms to effectively navigate this high-value and intricate claim, ultimately contributing to a more streamlined and successful legal process.
